URGENT J&K GOVT ALERT: MTS / Class-IV Vacancies
JKSSB will release the consolidated MTS/Class-IV advertisement when departments submit final indents. Keep documents ready.
Mode: Written exam (JKSSB pattern). Interviews: No (when advertised). Timeline: Official notification expected soon.
JKSSB MTS 2026 Vacancy Details and Referral Status
As of December 2025, the referral process is in full swing. Departments like Health & Medical Education, Revenue, School Education, and Finance are among the top contributors to the vacancy pool. Unlike the 2020 drive, which was a unified UT-wide advertisement, the 2026 notification might be categorized into District, Divisional, and UT Cadre posts.
Candidates will likely be asked to provide their preferences for these cadres during the online application process. This categorization is vital because it determines your posting and seniority within the department.
Detailed Eligibility Criteria for JKSSB MTS 2026
Apart from the educational qualifications, candidates must satisfy the domicile and age requirements. To be eligible, a candidate must be a Domicile of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. This remains a non-negotiable criterion for all non-gazetted posts in the region.
Age Limit (As of January 1, 2026)
The age limit for the upcoming recruitment is expected to follow the standard J&K government norms. While there have been demands for a one-time age relaxation due to the gap in recruitment, the current tentative limits are:
| Category | Minimum Age | Maximum Age |
| Open Merit (OM) | 18 Years | 40 Years |
| SC / ST / RBA / ALC / EWS | 18 Years | 43 Years |

The MTS (Multi-Tasking Staff) falls under the Pay Level SL1 (₹14,800 – ₹47,100). Along with the basic pay, employees are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and Medical Allowance as per the UT government rules.
The job profile is diverse. An MTS employee is expected to assist in daily office work, maintain files, handle photocopying/dispatch, and perform other tasks assigned by senior officials. While it is an entry-level job, it offers the stability of a government career and pathways for promotion to Junior Assistant through departmental exams.
Understanding the 10+2 Qualification Cap Controversy
The most debated aspect of the JKSSB MTS recruitment is the educational eligibility. The government’s stance is clear: the Minimum qualification is Matric (10th) and the Maximum is 10+2 (12th).
If you are a graduate, even if you meet the age criteria, you are technically ineligible for these posts. The rationale provided by the administration is that graduates often find these roles (which involve multi-tasking, office maintenance, and basic clerical assistance) unsatisfying, leading to high attrition rates.
However, the ground reality in J&K is different. With rising unemployment, even PhD holders are often willing to work in MTS roles. For the 2026 cycle, candidates are advised to be extremely cautious. Hiding higher qualifications can lead to permanent debarment from all future JKSSB exams and even legal action for providing false affidavits.
