J&K Cabinet gives Green Singal for Creating 8200 Teacher Posts for Government Schools of J&K. 2380 Posts to be created for 17 New Colleges

Big Update (As on 28th Dec, 2017) : Out of 8200 Teacher Posts, Today, JKSSB announced 2154 Teachers for 14 Districts of J&K. Online Registration starts. Last Date to apply online is 21st Jan, 2018.



If you are a Teaching Job Aspirant and looking for Government Teacher Jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, then Today, we have some great news for you and this news is coming Directly from the State Cabinet Meeting held on 24th Oct, 2017, where Cabinet Okays creation of 17 New Colleges in J&K and Upgradation of 400 Schools and this, in turn, lead to creation of 8200 Teacher Posts in Govt Schools of J&K and 2380 Fresh Posts in 17 New colleges of J&K. 

So, those who are awaiting the JKSSB Teacher Recruitment will have something to rejoice as there will be Upcoming 8200 Teacher Posts for aspirants in Jammu and Kashmir. As this Teacher Recruitment is to be conducted on a Large Scale and includes the Posts of Assistant Professors, 10+2 Lecturers and Teachers. So this Recruitment Process will be completed both by JKSSB and JKPSC 

You might already be aware of Education Department referring 3450 Posts to JKSSB for Direct recruitment in February, 2016, which includes 2100+ Teacher posts Out of these 3450 Posts,  1289 Posts have been advertised in the month of October, 2017 for the Recruitment of Non-Teaching Staff in Government Schools and J&K and Today JKSSB had announced the remaining 2154 Teacher Posts for 14 Districts of J&K. This time, JKSSB Teacher Recruitment is announced Subject wise with Allocation of 30% Posts for Science / Maths and 10% Posts for Urdu.

The Reason is: Government is Upgrading the 400 Schools to their Next Higher Level

1) 200 Middle Schools will be upgraded to High Schools 

2) 200 High Schools will be upgraded to Higher Secondary Level

JKSSB 2154 Teacher Posts Announced: Complete Details.

28th Day of December 2017 brings smiles on the faces of Teacher Aspirants of J&K as the Most Awaited JKSSB Teacher Notification is announced. Though the maximum share of vacancies is for Kashmir Division (86%), while Jammu got only 14% and Ladakh Divisions seems like completely ignored with ZERO vacancies. 

Last Time, It was in 2013 when such a Big Teacher Recruitment was announced. At that time, more than 5000 vacancies were announced. 

Now, Let's discuss about the JKSSB Teacher Recruitment 2018 

Post: Government Teachers

No. of Vacancies: 2154 (District Wise Posts)

Here is the Subject wise Break up of JKSSB Teacher Posts

1) General Teachers: 1296 Posts
2) Science/Maths Teachers: 644 Posts
3) Urdu Teacher: 214 Posts


Highlights of JKSSB Teacher Recruitment 2018



This is the First Time, that you might be seeing these Categories of Teachers. Actually, Govt has released the New Recruitment Method for Hiring of Teachers in J&K and these Rules are covered in SRO-509, which States that

1) Graduation will be the minimum eligibility to apply for Teacher Jobs in J&K, with Preference to B Ed, M Ed and Higher Qualifications

2) Out of Total Posts, 30% will be reserved for Science / Maths Subjects and 10% for Urdu Subject while the remaining 60% can be filled up from Candidates having Degrees other than Science/Maths and Urdu Subjects. 

Other Important Changes in the Recruitment of Teachers in J&K

1) No Interview: Following the Central Govt's Decision to Dispense with the Interview for Jr. Level Posts, School Education Department of J&K, has decided to do away with Interview for Teacher Jobs in J&K. So, this will be for the First Time, that Selection Process is Free from Interviews.  

2) Changes in Selection Criteria: Earlier, Selection Process of Teachers comprises of Written Exam, Preference to Higher Qualification and Interview. However, with the dispensing of Interviews, 20 Marks allocated for Interview are adjusted with Written Exam, which now carries 85 Points 

Here is the Revised Criteria for JKSSB Teacher EXam

i) Written Exam: 85 Points

ii) Qualification: 15 Points (Out of which)
  • B Ed: 05 Points
  • M Ed: 05 Points
  • PG: 02 Points
  • M Phil: 01 Point
  • Direct PHD : 03 Point
  • Phd After M Phil: 02 Points   
3) Computer Based Exam: Written Exams for these Teacher Posts are to be conducted through Computer Based Mode. So, gone are the Days, you have to Darken the Ovals on OMR Sheet. There will be 120 Multiple Choice Questions with Overall Duration of 2 Hours

4) Negative Marking: Gone are the Days when you can attempt All the Questions in the JKSSB Written Exam, now you should attempt only those questions for which you are Quite sure, otherwise you will be penalized with 0.25 Marks for every incorrect answer.

5) Changes in the Syllabus: Last but not the least, JKSSB has made some major Changes in the Contents of the Syllabus for Teacher Posts. There is Separate Syllabus for All the Three Categories of Teacher Posts.

If you are new to JKSSB Examination System, then we are informed that Recruitment of Teachers is done on District wise basis ie Candidates can apply for vacancies for their respective Districts only

Who can apply for Teacher Posts in J&K?


Applicant willing to apply for Teachers in Education Department should full fill the below mentioned eligibility conditions.

1) Domicile: Applicant should be a permanent resident of J&K and should apply for the posts advertised for their respective District only.

2) Age Limit: Applicants should have attained the age of 18 years and maximum age should not exceed 40 years. The cut off Date for Determining the Age criteria is 1st Jan, 2017. However, there is relaxation in Upper Age Limit, as per the already specified Govt Rules

3) Education Qualification: Applicant should have completed Degree in any discipline from a recognized University of India. However, candidates having B. Ed / M Ed. and Higher Qualification will be given preference.

Here is the Requirement of Additional Qualification for Science/ Maths and Urdu Teachers

i) For Science Maths Teachers: Applicants should have studied Physics OR Chemistry Or Maths Or Botany Or Zoology as one of the subjects in all the Semesters/years of their Graduation Degree

ii) For Urdu Teacher: Applicant should have studied Urdu as a Subject in All the Semesters/years of Graduation.

Selection Process

The Selection Process for the Recruitment of Teachers comprises of Written Test and Academic Merit only. There will be No Interview for Teacher posts and J&K Government has abolished the Interviews for Non-Gazetted posts in J&K.

1) Written Exam: 85 Points
2) Higher Qualification: 15 Points

Online Application: Online Registration for Teacher Posts is already started and you can Register online till 21st Jan 2018. Online Application, can be submitted at the JKSSB Online Portal at www.ssbjk.in

Application Fees: Applicants need to pay Rs 350, as application fees by Online Payment, CSC Or through Bank Challan.

How Many Teacher  Posts will be Created?

The government of Jammu and Kashmir has given the Green Singal for the creation of 8200 Teacher posts for Upgraded Schools of Jammu. Out of these 8200 Posts, 2154 Posts have been announced

Apart from this, Government also approved the creation of 140 Posts for each of the new colleges of J&K. Out of these 140 posts, (70 will be Teaching Posts and 70 for Non-Teaching Posts

When 8200 Teacher Recruitment will be announced?

Well Exact Date for Advertisement of these vacancies will be known, only after the vacancies will be referred to the Recruitment agencies (JKSSB and JKPSC), but Education Minister has given the Tentative Schedule for filling the posts.

Education Minister Syed Bukhari said they have issued directions to the Director School Education for identifying the Schools that would be upgraded and submit the feasibility report to the Administration Department. 

Minister also informed that directions have been issued for early upgradation of schools, so that we can start the classes in the Upgraded Schools from the Next Academic session.

If things go well then Education Department may soon refer these posts to JKSSB for Recruitment of TEachers to JKSSB.

It is expected that Advertisement for these Teacher posts will be announced in March /April 2018.

This is only tentative schedule and Exact Dates will be known only after the announcement of Advt. by JKSSB, So, all we have to do is to wait and watch for the referring the vacancies to JKSSB.
