Horrible Unemployment Numbers of J&K in 2012


The Department of Labour and Employment had announced in March, 2012 there are over 6 lakh Unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.Here are some of the Highlight of the Report

Total Unemployed : 6.01 lakh

By Region
  • Unemployed in Kashmir Region: 3,21,562
  • Unemployed in Jammu Region: 2,80,285
  By Qualification
  • Unemployed Illiterates: 3203
  • Unemployed Middle Passers: 77,087
  • Unemployed Matriculates: 1,65,208
  • Unemployed Graduates: 85,000
  • Unemployed Post-Graduates: 20,000
Note: All these above mentioned have registered with Different Employment Exchanges in J&K
  • J&K has Highest Unemployment rate, when compared with its 4 Neigh boring states.
  • Number of Registered Unemployment people had gone up from 1.1 lakh in 2007 to 6.1 lakh in 2011, An increase of 439%.
  • Female Unemployment Rate in J&K is 17.1 %, which is very high when compare with that of the All India level where Female Unemployment rate is only 3.6%

Number of Government Vacancies in J&K

As per a News Report Published in Greater Kashmir dated 1st, June, 2012, there are Over 1 Lakh Vacancies in the various Government Departments of Jammu and Kashmir. As we mentioned earlier, that there are over Six Lakh Job-Seekers in J&K, So the Govt must start the hiring process on war footing to give some relief to the Unemployed people of the state

Out of 1 Lakh vacancies, 5250 Gazetted posts, 35,694 Non-Gazetted posts, 11350 class IV posts have been lying vacant. Apart from this the State Govt have not filled 43000 Daily Wager vacancies that have been identified for 7 Departments

It is also informed that Every year 5000 vacancies are created in different State Govt Departments due to Retirement of Employee. 


Who are Employment Generators of J&K ?


There are 2 major Organisations in the J&K that are responsible for conducting the Recruitment Drives

JKPSC: Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission was established in 1957 to recruit people for Civil Services.JKPSC conducts both Competitive as well as Departmental Examinations.

JKPSC conduct the J&K Combined Services Competitive Examination (KAS) every year for the Recruitment of Gazetted Officers in various Departments

JKSSB: Jammu Kashmir Service Selection Board conducts Recruitment drive for Non-Gazetted posts in the state. JKSSB recruits people for various Non-Gazetted posts in the State Cadre, District Cadre and Divisional cadre

JK Bank Apart  from this J&K Bank is also the Largest Employer of People in J&K. In 2011 J&K bank had recruited 1200 people and is currently is the process of Hiring Relationship Executive. The Written Exam is over, in which 30000 people have appeared.

  1. Dear u r thinking that article 370 is the root cause of unemployment in J & K state but ur thinking is totally wrong
    u know article 370 makes no restriction to the outside industrialists to plan their industries here but restriction for every non resident of j and k state that they can not buy the land here
    this makes our state special and as u people said that the said state is heaven and this is due to this article other wise it will become hell
    and for above asked question my answer is NO.

    Hi Reyaz, I think you didnot updated yoursef with the Content of Artcile 370. For your Convienec i am posting the Link below, that contains the Complete Details,about the Artcile 370 in which it is clearly written
    that "Indian citizens from other states and women from Jammu & Kashmir who marry men from other states can not purchase land or property in Jammu & Kashmir."

  3. We the people would prefer to die with hunger rather than break Article 370. The value of our valley is due to this article once the article will be broken kashmir's would be treated like dogs.
